What does VeraPelle mean?

Is it a famous Italian purse designer? After digging around on cyberspace trying to solve this mystery I found an article written in Italian defining the meaning of VeraPelle. Thanks to modern internet technology there was an online tool I was able to use to translate the language into English.

And what a surprise to find out that it is not an Italian designer purse but in fact is a trademark guaranteeing authentic leather products per an Italian law enacted in 1966!

Knowing this information it is now funny reading an online auction that I saw this morning stating, Daniela Moda leather handbag made by VeraPelle as if it was an actual person not a piece of material.

A company can use the trademark VeraPelle after signing a special contract of usage as stated by the International Council of Tanners. When you see this stamped on your designer handbag it assures you that it is made of authentic Italian leather of the highest value and quality.
